NOTE- MEMBRANE CARTRIDGE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED EVERY SECOND YEAR.

Before you begin, make sure you have the following:

  • New replacement cartridges
  • A bucket and towel to flush and catch drips

Step 1: Isolate the Water Supply

  1. Locate the isolation valve under your sink. This valve controls the water supply to your filter system.
  2. Turn the valve to the "OFF" position. This will stop water from flowing to the filter.

ON POSITION- Isolation valve ON position    OFF POSITION- Isolation valve OFF position

Step 2: Depressurise the System

  1. Turn the valve on the Reverse Osmosis tank to OFF position.
  2. Turn the dedicated filter tap on your sink to ON position.

  3. Allow the remaining water to drain out. This will release any pressure built up in the system and make it easier to remove the old cartridges.

Step 3: Replace and Flush Cartridges 1, 2 and 3

  1. Working one at a time, grab a cartridge and twist it clockwise, just like you would with a lightbulb.

  2. Pull the cartridge down and out of the filter head. Be prepared for a small amount of water to leak out.

  3. Dispose of the old cartridge in the landfill bin.
  4. Take the new cartridges 1, 2 and 3 first. Align the top of the new cartridge with the filter head. Push the cartridge up and into the head, then twist it anticlockwise until it is securely in place.

  5. Disconnect the tube from the filter head after the third cartridge. To do this, remove the collet clip, Push the collet square against the face of the fitting. With the collet held in position pull the tube away.

  6. Attach a flushing tube to the connection, ensuring it locks into place. Direct the end of the tube into a sink. Turn the water supply back on and let the water run until air bubbles and any loose carbon have been flushed out. Once the water runs clear, turn off the water supply, hold the collar in, and pull out the flushing tube to reconnect the original tube.
  7. Alternatively, you can use a bucket to collect the flushing water.

Step 4: Replace the Reverse Osmosis (RO) Membrane

  1. When replacing the reverse osmosis membrane, first locate the head of the filter, which will contain some residual water. Use a pair of grips to pinch the head, then twist and pull to detach the old membrane. Insert the new membrane into the head, making sure its white nib aligns correctly with the lid. Before reattaching, inspect the O-ring for any damage to ensure a proper seal. Finally, screw the head back into the unit, tightening it only by hand to avoid overtightening.

Step 5: Restore Water Supply and Flush the System

  1. Carefully detach the tubes from the fittings on both sides of each filter. Once the old filters are out, take the new filters and reconnect the tubes to the fittings, ensuring they are securely in place. If your fittings don't have a black O-ring, you'll need to wrap plumber's tape around the threads to prevent leaks before screwing them on.

Step 6: Restore Water Supply and Flush the System

  1. Once all the new cartridges are installed, turn the isolation valve under your sink back to the "ON" position.

  2. Turn the filter tap to ON position and allow the water to run for 30 minutes to flush the new cartridges. This removes any carbon fines or air from the system.

  3. After flushing, turn the filter tap to OFF position, turn the Reverse Osmosis tank valve to ON position.

  4. Air bubbles in the filtered water may be seen which settle down within 2 weeks.

You have now successfully replaced the cartridges in your Great Water Elite Series 3, 5 or 6-stage inline water filter! Enjoy another year of great-tasting, pure water.
